Tundra Films® Presents:
Grandfather's Birthday
“It’s the big day,” Grandfather says to his trusty dog as he awakes in the opening scene of GRANDFATHER’S BIRTHDAY. At his age, Grandfather feels every birthday is one worth celebrating. His wife is no longer there to be part of the festivities, but Grandfather is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his family to help him make the most of his special day.
GRANDFATHER’S BIRTHDAY traces the key moments in Grandfather’s day, and what transpires as he comes to grips with the realities of his life. This poignant story sends an important message to all of us about how we view our elderly friends and neighbors.
Veteran stage, screen and television star Robert Prosky (HILL STREET BLUES, DEAD MAN WALKING, MRS. DOUBTFIRE) puts his special talents to work in the title role. He is joined by his son, John (BOWFINGER, THE NUTTY PROFESSOR), in their first combined on-camera appearance on the big screen. Veteran actress Sally Wingert (THE STRAIGHT STORY, FARGO) also appears.
GRANDFATHER’S BIRTHDAY is based on the short story “It Was Grandfather’s Birthday,” written by the late Rudy Joe Mano. This piece has become one of the most requested reruns in Ann Landers’ syndicated newspaper column.
