PRISONER 32,232 gives audiences a glimpse into the very unique life of Norwegian immigrant, Reidar Dittmann, who settled in Minnesota after surviving more than a year in Buchenwald Concentration Camp during World War II. Dittmann’s story, documented by award-winning filmmaker Gayle Knutson, traces his life from Norway to Northfield, Minnesota, starting as a student and then becoming a college professor. He shares his experiences as a teenage boy, surprised to find the Nazis occupying his home country. He was arrested on three different occasions, the third resulting in his incarceration in one of the most notorious concentration camps in Germany. Dittmann shares his experiences and the lessons that can be drawn from what he witnessed coming of age during the war.
